“After working with more than a dozen Madison-area healthcare professionals (including PT, chiropractic, rehab physicians, pain management, colorectal surgery, etc.) for more than 3 years and getting minimal improvement in a complex, chronic case of pelvic and lower back pain, I met Emily at Synergy PT. Her knowledge, skills, armamentarium (manipulation, stretching, strengthening, dry needling, etc.) are unmatched and reflect a deep understanding of both form and function that few other PTs (if any in Dane County, frankly) can match. Emily is passionate about her work, fearless about addressing health issues some would consider tabu, and is consistently committed to being a partner in her clients’ journey of recovering from pain and returning to proper functioning in their daily lives. She has excellent bedside manner and does everything with optimism and with a big, encouraging smile! ”

“I am so grateful to Emily for the integral role she played in my recovery from a back injury. She has a thorough understanding of the inter-connectedness of the human body. She takes the time to explain exactly what she’s doing and why. She taught me how to strengthen muscles I didn’t even know I had! I always looked forward to my appointments with Emily because they meant progress. The words I would choose to describe Emily’s approach are: comfortable, professional, thorough, progressive and cutting edge. After my injury fully healed, I actually felt stronger than before my injury had occurred. Emily truly is a healer. ”

“My experience with Emily and Synergy PT has been nothing short of outstanding. The depth of Emily’s experience was immediately evident, and the breadth of her skills - from “traditional” PT to muscle stimulation and massage - have been a game-changer for me. When I first showed up at her office, I felt pessimistic about my potential to resolve long-standing sports-related injuries. However, she quickly got to the root cause of my issues, and within a number of weeks I had gone from trouble sleeping due to pain, to painlessly running several miles at a time. I’ve seen a number of quality PTs in my time, but Emily has raised the bar! ”

“I cannot speak highly enough about my experience with Emily in the treatment of my pelvic pain. Along with providing excellent physical therapy, she educates and arms you with the tools to care for yourself. What had been a significant source of pain and issues for several years was remedied after just several months of appointments thanks to her consummate professionalism and care.”

“I complained to a friend about how I was constantly running to the chiropractor to deal with my lower back issues and she recommended that I go to Emily in order to learn how to take care of my back. I am so glad that I took her advice. Emily taught me better ways to move and gave exercises that greatly improved my lower back issues. She also did dry needling work on my neck to help me release tension there and helped me with pelvis issues. Everything is connected! Emily is passionate about helping her clients achieve their goals and is a true professional. I highly recommend her. ”

“Over a decade ago, I had back surgery due to three herniated discs in my lower back. Since then, I’ve explored a wide range of programs (and worked with a lot of different practitioners) in a quest to get back to “full strength” — physical therapy, chiropractic, stretching, yoga, pilates, and so on. While each of those helped me realize incremental gains, working with Emily at Synergy FINALLY made me whole again. My consistent, nagging hip and lower back issues are now gone. I’m living a life that is pain-free, active and without the constant fear of getting hurt. Emily’s approach is thorough, thoughtful and life (and body!) changing. I can’t say enough for her and her ability to diagnose and build a program that delivers results.”

“I am so grateful to have worked with Emily while dealing with severe plantar fasciitis in both heels. I went to Emily, based on a recommendation from a friend, after trying home treatments for over 6 months without any relief. I was so impressed with Emily’s level of attention to my specific needs and her ability to share her ideas, techniques and exercises so that I would better understand my home care. I was amazed at how skillfully she worked to shift things around in my heels so that bones and tendons were in their proper alignment. Finally, Emily is so easy to talk to and makes you feel like an instant friend. She helped me fully recover and I recommend her without hesitation.”

“I contacted Emily because of the hip and back pain I was experiencing after having my second child. It was so severe it was keeping me from running and other exercises I love. Emily took in the “whole picture” of my health issues and considered many different aspects of my physical and emotional life in my treatment. Emily helped me by showing me how my muscles were firing out of order, thus causing me to be clenching them when it was not necessary. This caused me to hold my body in a way that was causing me undue pain. Her hands-on treatment was gentle and soothing and her recommendations were helpful and made so much sense and helped me understood how all of my muscles work together. The result of my time with Emily is I no longer have any hip or back pain. It’s astonishing to me because I thought I would have it forever, the way my dad does. Now I am able to run, hike, jump and chase after my kids with out concern because I know proper form, breathing and exercises I can do at home to keep everything in check. I found the experience of working with Emily to be delightful; I looked forward to my appointment each week. I saw huge changes week to week and in a very short amount of time, I felt better than I had in years. Emily changed the way I think about my body when I exercise. I have so much more awareness now; I am mindful of everything from how I am breathing to how I am holding my body when in motion and when relaxing. I can highly recommend Emily for any physical therapy treatment you need. She is a wonderful person with so much knowledge and huge passion for what she does”

“I began the year having trouble urinating. I saw several PAs in urology. They did tests which showed no apparent issue. Seeking answers online, chronic pelvic pain syndrome seemed to fit my symptoms. I brought this diagnosis to the attention of those in urology and got referred to PT, but I found the assigned PT to be somewhat lacking. At this point I found Emily at Synergy Physical Therapy. Emily took time to listen to me and to perform a thorough evaluation. Emily understood how I was suffering both physically and mentally. She recognized my problem of pelvic pain and reassured me of its legitimacy. She gave me hope. After working with Emily, I have significantly improved. She is very caring and knowledgeable. I would not be healing as well without her. I am thankful for having met Emily. She is an excellent pelvic PT. ”

““When I first met with Emily at 9 months postpartum, I had already seen multiple professionals who could not figure out why I was having persistent pelvic pain and incontinence since giving birth. After 6 months of trying everything with no success, Emily helped me finally understand what was going on with my body. Working with Emily was so different from my experiences with other pelvic floor physical therapists. She made me feel so comfortable and went the extra mile to figure out the root cause of my symptoms. She used a variety of approaches to help me progress in my recovery and always took the time to listen and answer my questions. After only a couple of appointments, I was experiencing real improvement for the first time since giving birth! Emily was extremely knowledgeable, caring, and invested in my overall well-being. My work with Emily changed my relationship with my body for the better. I never knew pelvic floor PT could be so transformative!” ”

“As a mother of 2 young children, I’ve been challenged by pelvic health issues for some time now, particularly related to incontinence. I’m in disbelief at how much improvement I’ve seen since working with Emily. I’ve gone from wearing the 4 tear drop pad and changing twice a day to a panty liner during the day and NOTHING at night. I’m hardly leaking urine at all. I’m astounded that just a small change in posture and breathing can make this much of a difference! I even did my weight lifting workout (heavy squats, dead lifts, and push press) with no pad on and ZERO leaking.”

“After the birth of my first child, I could not sit properly because of tailbone pain. I went to my OB/GYN two weeks after the birth and told him that I felt my pain was beyond what was normal and asked if he had any suggestions. He told me not all people recover the same and to give it time. Four weeks post-partum I still had not seen any improvement. I was carrying a donut pillow around with me everywhere I went. I spent numerous hours of my maternity leave doing online research about how to get rid of my tailbone pain, only to be left feeling hopeless and worried that the pain would never go away. That is until I stumbled across a website for Emily’s services. I showed up at her office in tears, telling her that I just wanted to be able to sit properly and to also have another child someday without the fear that I would further damage my body. After a thorough examination and heartfelt discussion with Emily, I left my first appointment filled with hope that I could one day be my “normal” self again. I worked with Emily over the course of 4 months, always feeling that I had her undivided attention, that I was in good hands, and that my pain would someday be gone. She started each appointment with a thorough examination of my entire body, explaining that everything is interconnected, and by looking at the problem holistically, we could relieve my pain. She was professional, thorough, kindhearted, and made me feel that my getting better was something she truly cared about. She not only provided me with physical therapy, she lent a compassionate ear at each appointment as well. After the 4 months, I barely had any symptoms. No more donut pillow! I even had the confidence to get pregnant a second time, knowing that if I had pain afterwards, Emily could fix it. I am now living my “normal” life, and I owe it all to Emily! I truly don’t know what I would have done without her! ”

“I worked with Emily for a handful of sessions to address some pelvic floor issues I developed a year or so after my second child was born. I worked with three other pelvic floor physical therapists previously and each brought something to the table. But Emily managed to cut through to the heart of the matter for me and not only helped me address the physical symptoms I was experiencing but also the emotional symptoms of it all. There is so much that happens in our minds when faced with a pelvic floor diagnosis or issue and it’s so easy to overlook. Having someone who listens and hears you is just as important as having someone who has the hands-on skills to treat the physical symptoms. Emily is both of these. An amazing hands-on PT and a fantastic listener. And I feel the best mentally and physically that I have in a *very* long time. It’s good to have my life back!”

“Prior to seeing Emily I had been instructed to do the standard pelvic floor strengthening exercises. Emily looked at my pelvic floor tension and prolapse intertwined with my upper back and posture; she saw it as a whole. I am deeply grateful for the kindness, insight, and education which she offered me.”
